About the Band
String Theory is a fresh new folk band that specializes in high energy Irish trad tunes and songs. The band features Nathan Kennedy on fiddle, Meg Tapley on flute, whistle, and vocals and Jesse Ramirez on guitar and mandolin plus other players such as Russ Alves and Matt Cook on occasion.
The band premiered in 2015 with performances at The Celt and Trinity Hall and has since performed in many venues including being selected to open for Celtic Thunder’s Emmet Cahill. They have recently been accepted to play at NTIF as a regional performer.
Nathan Kennedy is a national Irish Fiddle champion who was the first youth from Texas to compete in the All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil. Nathan is a member of the TIMES session players, the Irish musical group Innisfall, and is a teacher at the North Texas School of Irish Music. Meg Tapley plays Irish flute, penny whistle, and concert flute with several ensembles including the Irish band County Rexford, and through UNT where she is graduating with a flute performance degree. Jesse Ramirez has a master’s degree in guitar performance from UNT and played with the Celtic Ensemble at Texas Tech for 3 years. He plays Irish guitar and classical finger style guitar, and is currently a professor of music at Mountain View College.

Meet the Band
Nathan Kennedy - is a national champion Irish Fiddler who is also a Texas all-state winning classical violinist. He is the first youth fiddler from Texas to compete at the All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil – the world championships of Irish Music. He was also concertmaster of the first McKinney orchestra to win the All State Texas Championships. Nathan plays fiddle with String Theory, and Innisfall as well as several string quartets and orchestras. He has played concerts with Celtic Thunder, The Irish Tenors, and Celtic Woman. He has played many festivals including NTIF 4 times, Texas Scottish Festival twice, Sherwood Celtic Festival, Kimblefest Scotland, Allen Arts Festival, McKinney St. Patricks Festival, Murphy International Festival, O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat, and a featured concert at Donegal Castle in Ireland. Nathan is a fiddle teacher with the North Texas School of Irish Music. He has played fiddle for 8 years and his instructors have included David Mehalko, Oisin Mac Diarmada, Randal Bays, James Kelly, Liz Knowles, Liz Carroll, Oisin McAuley, Fergal Scahill, and Dillan FoleyFiddleJesse Ramirez was born in San Angelo, TX and like most musicians, has been surrounded by music since a very early age. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University in 2011 and earned his Master's of music, performance magna cum laude, from the University of North Texas in 2015. While at Texas Tech, Jesse studied under David Brandon, a direct student of Andres Segovia and professional touring partner of Christopher Parkening. In 2009, As an undergraduate, Jesse was involved in the Texas Tech Celtic Ensemble where he participated in Celtic music traditions of tunes, songs, and dance for 3 years. In 2011, Jesse opened West Texas Guitar, where he taught private lessons in guitar, mandolin, and piano to 30 students. He also instructed at Angelo State University in the department of extended studies for classical and commercial guitar courses. Jesse has been teaching lessons for the past 6 years, and is now a professor of music at Mountain View College.
